ELIM IN THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

Elim Ministries is part of the Elim Pentecostal Movement in Ireland. It carries on its work under the covering and with the support of the Irish Superintendent and Irish Executive of the Elim Churches, with a particular focus on, and mission to, the twenty-six counties of the Republic of Ireland.

BRIEF HISTORICAL OVERVIEW

After the spiritual breakthrough that occurred in Monaghan in 1915, with evangelist George Jeffreys, the work of Elim began to spread and develop rapidly under the anointing and blessing of the Lord. Elim churches were quickly established in Northern Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales and beyond. But when the Irish Free State was set up in 1922, Elim had only one church south of the border and that was in the town of its origin, Monaghan.

John McEvoy

It was not until much later, in 1957, that, through Elim, God sent a man, Pastor Gordon Hills, to the City of Dublin to plant a church there. Under his leadership and ministry a church was established there for the glory of God.

It would be another twenty years before the next Elim Church was established in the South of Ireland. After evangelistic outreaches from the Dublin Elim Church in 1976 and 1977, supported by teams from our churches in Northern Ireland, a church was started in the small, picturesque town of Westport, County Mayo, on the far western coast of Ireland.

Since 1977, Elim has continued to grow steadily in the Republic of Ireland, to the point where we now have nine centres of witness in nine counties across the country. These are in Monaghan (Co. Monaghan), Cootehill (Co. Cavan), Navan (Co. Meath), Ballyfermot (Co. Dublin), Roscrea (Co. Tipperary), Limerick (Co. Limerick), Westport and Castlebar (Co. Mayo), Sligo (Co. Sligo), Letterkenny (Co. Donegal) and Boyle (Co. Roscommon).

ELIM MINISTRIES' VISION

Our corporate designation in the twenty-six counties is "Elim Ministries" and we have our own logo and specific vision which we believe the Lord has given us. On our national brochure it states, "The primary objective of our churches is to spread the whole Gospel throughout the whole country for the glory of God's Name."

Our Five Fold Vision

We are running with a five-fold vision, the key elements of which are
  1. SPIRITUAL PREPARATION OF LEADERS THROUGH PRAYER AND FASTING

  2. BIBLE TRAINING FOR LEADERS

  3. STRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT OF OUR WORK

  4. CHURCH PLANTING and EVANGELISM

  5. COMMUNICATION AND CO-OPERATION WITH OTHER CHRISTIAN CHURCHES & AGENCIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
